Goole's take on the match Guys
Thought I would post the Goole match report from their site, some nice comments about the team.
Rotherham Clifton 27 v Goole 19
'This was the first full fixture between the two sides and the weather did it’s best to spoil the day. For the first time in several weeks Goole were able to field a full strength team in all departments. The Goole forwards soon got into the swing of things competing at the break down and retaining possession. The Goole backs took a little longer to get their rhythm but when it came it was points on the board time. The forwards won possession just in their half. Tom Bettridge gave quick ball to Rhys Moore at fly half who drew the covering defence before kicking over the heads of the rush defence. Winger, James Stevens ran up to collect the bouncing ball at pace and left the Rotherham defence in his wake to score between the posts. Rhys converted. Rotherham, with the strong wind in their faces regrouped and continued to pressurise the Goole three-quarters. However the Goole’s defensive line on several occasions managed to prevent Rotherham from crossing the gain time. Eventually the pressure showed and jinks in Goole’s armour showed giving Rotherham their first points of the game. Goole’s second try came from a scrum on Goole’s 10 metre line. The ball went down the ¾ line to Tez Leeke who took the ball on an infield line and gained many meters. The ball was won at the breakdown. Tom Bettridge took quick ball and sliced through the Rotherham central defence to score beneath the post. This was converted. The last try of the half was Rotherham’s. They took the ball down the middle with good rucking technique and pushed Goole back to their 5m line. Eventually Goole’s defence was beaten by a determined crash ball carrier crossing the line. Half time score 14-10 to Goole. At half time the team was reorganised to cover for injuries and squad rotation. This unfortunately unsettled the forwards and Goole were not competing at the ruck or maul effectively. Rotherham were soon three tries up caused mainly by weak tackling by Goole and good running lines by the opposition. The final score of the game was Goole’s following a good tackle which caused the Rotherham player to spill the ball backwards. Edward Newsum fly hacked on. Rotherham collected the ball but the Goole forwards were quick to follow up and Rotherham conceded a penalty 5meters out for holding on. Quick thinking from Tom Bettridge enabled him to take a quick tap penalty at swerve cross the line to score. Robert Shand showed good determined running in the centre, along with good defence and running from Tez Leeke. Man of the match went to Tom Bettridge for his round play'.
